Guide to Rating Songs
Very low (1 - 15%)
Ampers will demonstrate a rudimentary understanding of how sounds are organized. The outcome is likely to be only modestly successful and often inconsistent in its deployment of resources.
Pretty low (16 – 30%)
Ampers will demonstrate basic understanding of how sounds are organized and show a successful use of simple resources.
Getting There (31 – 50%)
Ampers will demonstrate increased understanding of how sounds are organized and competent use of resources. Compositions in this range may show greater coherence but with limitations in the handling of musical ideas and the deployment of resources.
Cool (51 – 75%)
Ampers will organize sounds to produce effective compositions with a sense of structure and some attempt at color. They will show that they can work confidently in the chosen medium or style. Compositions at this level will demonstrate competence in writing for their chosen resources.
Warm (76 to 85 %)
Ampers will demonstrate a successful and imaginative organization of sounds and use of resources in ways which are appropriate to the chosen medium or style and which are appropriate to their intentions. A warm composition will demonstrate flair, effective and idiomatic use of instruments, voices and sound sources and use rhythmic devices and dynamic contrast to create appropriate color and mood. There will be a sense of wholeness in musical terms.
HOT (86 to 100% )
In this range compositions will be musically interesting and satisfying through the successful and imaginative organization of sounds in ways which make inventive and idiomatic use of the chosen medium or style. They will demonstrate a completeness in which the wholeness of the music is founded on the successful realization.
